Kids' Restorative Dentistry

It can be stressful to find out your child has a cavity. You might worry about whether the treatment will be scary for them, whether it will hurt, or whether you could have done something to prevent it.

Conservative Cavity Treatment

At Parker Family Dentistry, we treat children's dental problems with gentleness, patience, and understanding using the least invasive approach that will do the job well. Our dentists, Dr. Esi and Dr. Travis, take time to explain what is happening in a way your child understands to minimize stress and keep you informed throughout the process.

Our Approach to Kids' Restorative Dental Care

The best dental experience for a child is one that is as simple, comfortable, and confidence-building as possible. Here is what guides the way we treat our youngest patients.

Gentle, Minimally Invasive Treatment

When possible, our dentists choose the least invasive option available. Many cavities in children can be treated without drilling, reducing anxiety and making the experience easier for your child and for you.

Healthy Baby Teeth Protect Adult Teeth

Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, supporting their ability to eat, speak, and develop normally. Treating decay early protects that foundation and reduces the risk of more complex problems as your child grows.

Treatment Your Child Can Handle

We choose techniques and materials designed with children in mind. From the way we explain procedures to the tools we use, everything we do is meant to keep your child comfortable, calm, and cooperative.

Minimally Invasive Cavity Treatment

We start with the gentlest, most conservative approach possible. These treatments can stop or slow decay without drilling and are a good first option for many children.

  • Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) — Silver diamine fluoride is a liquid treatment applied directly to a cavity to stop it from progressing. It is quick, painless, and requires no drilling or anesthesia. SDF permanently stains the treated area, so it is best for baby teeth or areas not visible when smiling.
  • Iodine Treatment — Iodine-based treatments can slow early decay and reduce bacteria in the mouth. Like SDF, iodine is a non-invasive option that we may recommend as part of cavity treatment for young or anxious patients.
  • Hall Crowns — Stainless steel crowns placed on primary molars seal in the decay to stop its progress. This highly effective procedure is minimally invasive and does not require shots, drilling, or sedation.

Traditional Restorative Treatment

For more advanced decay or a tooth needing substantial repair, we offer a range of options. We use child-appropriate techniques and take as much time as your child needs to feel comfortable. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is also available.

  • Tooth-Colored Fillings — We remove the decayed part of the tooth and place a tooth-colored composite resin material. The repair is virtually invisible for a seamless appearance.
  • Stainless Steel Crowns — When a baby tooth is too damaged for a filling but needs to stay in place until it falls out naturally, a stainless steel crown provides strong, durable coverage.
  • Pulpotomies and Pulpectomies — When decay reaches the inner pulp of a baby tooth, a pulpotomy removes the infected portion of the pulp while leaving healthy tissue in place. A pulpectomy removes all of the pulp from the tooth and canals.
