Dental Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges

You may notice teeth breaking down when you chew on one side without thinking, when food keeps getting stuck, or when a tooth feels more sensitive than it used to.

Tooth decay, damage, and tooth loss rarely arrive all at once; they creep in over time. Tooth damage affects how you eat, speak, and feel about your smile throughout the day. At Parker Family Dentistry, we can help you address these changes before they affect your diet and nutrition or become more serious.

Dental Problems Can Impact Your Daily Life

In addition to how you feel about your smile, decay, fractured, cracked, or broken teeth, and tooth loss can impact daily life, from being a minor nuisance to impacting your nutrition and overall health.

How Decay Can Affect Daily Life

  • Chewing feels uneven or limited
  • Food traps become harder to manage
  • A tooth feels thinner or less stable
  • One spot demands your attention every time you eat
A filling restores balance, allowing the tooth to function normally again.

Signs a Tooth Needs More Support

  • One tooth feels weaker than the others
  • Old dental work feels unreliable
  • Chewing pressure feels uneven
  • The tooth has lost a noticeable amount of structure
A crown restores strength and allows the tooth to function normally again.

How Tooth Loss Affects Your Mouth Over Time

  • Chewing becomes less efficient
  • Nearby teeth start to drift
  • Certain foods feel harder to manage
  • The bite loses even support
A bridge fills the space and helps your teeth work together again.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Parker Family Dentistry, we have several ways to replace missing teeth. Some are permanent, while others are removable.

Permanent Tooth Replacement Options

If you would like to permanently replace your missing teeth, we have the solutions you need. We provide both dental implants and bridges as permanent tooth replacement options.

A dental implant is the most natural tooth replacement option available, and for that reason, it’s a top choice for many dentists when making recommendations to a patient. We place the titanium dental implant into your jaw, where it fuses with your jawbone. This process, known as osseointegration, encourages healthy bone growth in the jaw. No other tooth replacement includes this benefit.

We place a bridge when a patient has some healthy, strong teeth remaining. The bridge “bridges” the gap between your healthy, natural teeth, filling the space that missing teeth have left.

Removable Tooth Replacement Options

Our Parker Family Dentistry team creates both partial and full dentures for our patients. Dentures provide the most economical choice for tooth replacement for most patients. They are also comfortable, have an attractive appearance, and patients can remove them for cleaning and while sleeping.

Caps (also known as dental crowns) can last a long time if properly cared for and maintained. However, if a patient neglects their oral hygiene, the longevity of a cap decreases dramatically. Therefore, when we place a dental crown or cap in our Logansport dental office, we will offer you advice on how to best care for your cap and keep your teeth healthy.

Tips for Getting a Longer Life Out of Your Crown

For the most part, you can care for a crown or cap the same way you care for your natural teeth. However, we do have a few tips to help you extend the lifespan of your crown.

Avoid Hard, Chewy, and Sticky Foods

Hard, chewy, and sticky foods can adhere to or fracture your crown. Once a crown has been damaged, we may need to replace it, depending on the severity of the damage. Avoiding these foods can also help protect your natural teeth, which are prone to decay when exposed to some chewy foods, like sugary caramel.

Follow a Good Oral Hygiene Routine

Your brushing and flossing routine contributes significantly to your overall oral health, and with better oral health, your dental crown will last longer. While your dental crown can’t decay, the tooth beneath it can, and if that happens, we’ll need to remove the crown to treat the issue. It’s also possible for food debris to become trapped between your gumline and the crown. For the best chance at long-lasting dental work, develop a good oral hygiene schedule at home and visit the dentist for regular dental cleanings and exams.

Dental Crowns in Logansport

In our 46947 area dental office, we place functional, natural-looking dental implants to restore patients’ smiles. In addition, Dr. Travis Parker and Dr. Esi Parker will help you keep your dental crowns and natural teeth in good condition for as long as possible.

We provide compassionate dentistry and treat patients just like our family in our Logansport dental office. We will do everything we can to make the procedures and treatments you receive in our office comfortable and pleasant for you.

Gentle Dentistry in Comfort

Our skilled dentists, Dr. Esi Parker and Dr. Travis Parker, offer gentle and experienced care to patients, and they’re always honest about your treatments. In most cases, we can make your procedures relaxing and painless by numbing the affected area. We also offer nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) to patients who have dental anxiety or experience discomfort during a procedure. Nitrous oxide, a mild sedative, helps you stay calm but doesn’t put you to sleep, so you can still communicate with our team while they work.

We want to build a trusting relationship with our patients. With that in mind, we will be upfront with you about any pain or discomfort you might experience during or after a scheduled procedure, and we will advise you on how to manage that pain if you do experience it. After most dental procedures, severe or prolonged pain is not normal, and you should always check in with us if that becomes an issue.

Our goal as your family dentist is to assist patients in relieving pain with our treatments, creating a healthier, stronger bite and smile.

Enjoy Compassionate Dentistry in Logansport

If you aim to avoid dental treatments like fillings and root canals, we can help with routine cleanings and exams. With regularly scheduled check-ups, we can keep an eye on any developing dental issues to use conservative treatment methods first. If a situation advances, such as a cavity, a more complex treatment may be necessary.

Either way, our empathetic team offers compassionate care, making your visits as pain-free as possible.

When Decay Starts to Creep In

Decay can start because of sugary, acidic, or starchy foods that feed bacteria and soften enamel, creating a superhighway for bacteria to reproduce. The byproduct of bacteria is acid and it works to slowly eat away at the enamel that protects the nerves and dentin within your teeth.

Decay does not usually stay small. A minor soft spot gradually weakens the tooth, creating a pathway for more bacteria, making chewing less comfortable, and providing more sites for food and bacteria to accumulate. Over time, you may favor one side of your mouth or avoid certain foods without realizing it.

Fillings stop that process by restoring the tooth’s structure and sealing out further damage.

When a Tooth Is Broken, Fragile, or Worn Down

A cracked or heavily restored tooth can feel unpredictable. You may hesitate before biting into crunchy foods or notice that your teeth no longer handle pressure as well as they once did. As that instability continues, adjacent teeth often experience increased strain.

Crowns reinforce weakened teeth by covering them completely and giving them the strength to handle everyday use.

Living With a Missing Tooth

When you lose a tooth, the change reaches beyond appearance. Gaps affect how your teeth meet, how food moves when you chew, and how neighboring teeth respond over time. Teeth often begin to shift, and chewing may feel less efficient or uncomfortable.

Bridges replace missing teeth to restore aesthetics, balance your bite, and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting.

Do I Really Need a Crown (Cap)?

Have you ever wondered why a dentist recommends a crown? Are they trying to scam me? Why can't they just put a filling? Let's delve into whether that crown is necessary.

What's a Dental Crown?

A crown(cap) is like a snug hardhat sitting on your head. Crowns protect/restore damaged teeth that are broken and cracked from decay. At Parker Family Dentistry, care starts with a conversation. We listen to what you notice, what feels different, and what you want to change. From there, we recommend fillings, crowns, or bridges based on what best supports your oral health and daily comfort. We offer same-day crowns and bridges in many cases for improved convenience.

You will always know:

Cost and Planning

The cost of fillings, crowns, and bridges depends on the tooth involved, the materials used, and the complexity of care. We review estimates clearly and discuss insurance and payment options before treatment begins.

If CEREC®, same-day crowns, or bridges are a possibility, we can often reduce costs by eliminating the need for third-party labs.

We’re Here to Help You Regain Your Smile

If decay, damage, or tooth loss already affects how your mouth feels day-to-day, it may be time to address it. Schedule a visit with Parker Family Dentistry in Logansport to talk through your options and restore balance to your smile.

Dental Fillings, Crowns and Bridges Technology

CEREC Same-Day Restorations

CEREC dental technology enables us to design and fabricate custom restorations in-office using advanced digital scanning and milling. Instead of traditional impressions and multiple appointments, CEREC captures precise images of your tooth and uses computer-guided design to craft restorations that fit comfortably and look natural.

We commonly use CEREC to create crowns and bridges that restore damaged or missing teeth while supporting proper bite function. Because the technology produces restorations on the same day, patients often complete treatment in a single visit, reducing the need for temporary restorations and return appointments.

CEREC crowns and bridges are made of strong, durable materials designed for everyday use. Dentists customize each restoration to match the surrounding teeth in appearance and to align with the bite. This technology helps streamline treatment while maintaining accuracy, comfort, and long-term oral health support.
